The Coco Douleur/Dodo Couleur crew in alphabetical order :

ADK
Alex de K, who was active in The Kazuyuchy, a japanese punk band met Special and Max in Tokyo in 1995. At the time Sam was a computer programming artist and used to compose songs in a very cheap way. It looked like nobody in the world needed Sam as an artist, but ADK had a strong interest in her work, so he asked her to set up a band together.
They recorded many songs mixing their own extremely different tastes, using acoustic instruments and various electronic devices adding simple but very effective lyrics to their music. They defined their style as Unsuitable Rock and choose the Sam & Valley moniker to present their work to the world. "My Favorite Clinic" was released in 1997 on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label and aptly spreaded their fame of "Computer Rock sensation" outside of their native country. Following the success of their debut album, three other full-lenght CDs were released on Angelika Koehlermann (Austria) and Awhisp (Canada). Sadly ADK went out to crop grass, also Sam went to do the washing in the river, and the project stopped in 2003. A compilation of unreleased track was released on Afe in April 2007. And ADK now runs his new wonderful project Onna Curry.

ADK made 3 tracks with me for Coco Douleur and Dodo Couleur (Coco², Ultra Mon, The Double Jetaime) !

And he sings in Portuguese on Boca Boca Dub !

Warren Defever (His Name Is Alive)
HIS NAME IS ALIVE has been described at various phases of their career as beautiful, mystifying, and "the band that gave Tom Cruise a nervous breakdown!!!" What began as experimental basement folk (acoustic guitar + loops + girl) eventually went on to sell 100,000 records with famed British label 4AD. Collaborations with legendary filmmakers THE BROTHERS QUAY resulted in two truly amazing and dark installments in the STILLE NACHT series. There latest album was recorded in Detroit by longtime member WARN DEFEVER, who has spent the last couple years recording and remixing other like-minded artists such as BLANCHE, TAMION12INCH, SATURDAY LOOKS GOOD TO ME, NOMO, LOW, THE VONBONDIES, IDA, ELIZABETH MITCHELL, YOKO ONO and demos for IGGY AND THE STOOGES!!!

Warren gave me the samples and materials that we (Hypo & EDH + Julian) used for our HNIA cover !

Vava Dudu
Fashion designer, artist and singer.
As a stylist, this season, Vava Dudu works in collaboration with Bernard Wilhelm, and produces as well, several photo series for diverse magazines (WAD, Standard). She used to have her own label with Fabrice Lorrain. Together, they won the prestigious Fashion award (ANDAM) in 2001. She regularly dresses artists such as Lady Gaga, Ebony Bones or Peaches. She is preparing her own personal exhibition in Paris, in July 2010.

La Chatte
The three-headed musical creature La Chatte was born in 2003 in Paris, formed by Vava Dudu, a pluridisciplinary artist, Stéphane Argillet aka Stereovoid, visual and sound artist member of the French collaborative France Fiction, and Nikolu, a polymorphous musician. Their music, a kind of post-punk electro-zouk, is ryhthmic, dark, distorted, strident and chocolate-flavored.
Renowned for their head blowing performances, the band has remained so far really discrete with its discography focussing on live collaborations with the likes of vivid astro focus or Voin de Voin for instance, crossing roads all over Europe.
Their first album, Bastet, a collection of realistic-futurist songs, could be the hypnotic soundtrack of a dance club haunted by ethereal voices, sharpened guitars and dark rhythms.

Vava sings on Dodo Couleur !

EDH
EDH emerges from the shadowy zones of French electro‐pop. Her unique sound combines her disembodied and fragile voice with strong and driving melodies. During the past decade, she has maintained a amazingly prolific pace, composing and recording non‐stop, desiring only to release a well chosen fraction of her output. This includes her now acclaimed contributions to Hypo’s and Anne Laplantine’s albums. Since her return to Paris from New York in 2003, she released several small treasures: Her first official album “Morgen” came out on the Japanese label IntikRec (dDamage, Aonami…) followed by the album “The correct use of pets” (in collaboration with Hypo) which won the first prize of the Qwartz Electronic Music Awards (2006). In 2008, the American rapper Subtitle who runs Matte Black Editions convinced her to release her New York productions. The result is “New York tracks 2001‐2002”, her most wonderfully obscure album to date. In 2010, EDH joins the Parisian label Lentonia, specialist of bizarre pop (A&E, Elmapi, Video love…), vinyl fetishists, bringing us her new album “Predature”.

EDH did a lot on these 2 records !

Midori Hirano
Midori Hirano is a musician, composer, sound artist and producer, born in Kyoto/Japan and now based in Berlin/Germany. She has been playing music since from the age of 5. While this led her to major in classical piano at university, it was the less traditional aspects of electronica that would ultimately prove her major inspiration. Her productions are based around the use of traditional instrumentation augmented with subtle electronic processing and digital samples creating a rich, rolling sound that is at once warm and melodic while tracing unexpected musical trajectories. Her first album, LushRush, was released on Noble records in 2006 and was primarily a collaborative affair, seeing her work with a number of guest musicians to create one of those beautiful, sprawling debuts that radiates a hazy blissfulness upon first listen. Her second, Klo:Yuri, saw her further develop her sound, garnering critical acclaim from various magazines in the world. She is also in demand as a composer of soundtracks for European and Asian films, with 2008 seeing her become the only Japanese composer to invited to take part in the Berlinale Talent Campus, hosted by the Berlin International Film Festival.

Midori sings on Yoropiku Bin Bin !

Nobuko Hori
Nobuko Hori was born and raised in the Kansai area of Japan. Which is the area around Osaka. There must be something in the water there, cause it seems to culture people with no boarders on art. She moved to Tokyo to study art, and has since moved to NYC. She’s a great unique talent, and continues the kansai’s area history of pushing left field pop and experimentation forward. Her first album xtoyourmilkyhair has been released by the Music Related label.
She also does videos (Midori Hirano, Shugo Tokumaru, Christopher Willits...) and does a playful duet of deconstructed pop with Kyoka : Groopies.

Nobuko made Sic Slac and Yoropiku Bin Bin with me !

Kumisolo
Kumi Okamoto has been previously known for a work as a member of the sweet'n'sour girl pop trio The Konki Duet (Active Suspension) and of the Tokyo based Francophile duet Crazy Curl (Channel Pro). Today, she takes the dive for a solo career, in order to demonstrate what her delicate, fragile and mind-drilling songwriting has to offer. Pop, pop, three times pop! (by O.Lamm)

Kumi's music evolved through the decade, and the experiments led her (and
collaborators like o.lamm) back full circle to a pure pop sound. Kumi may have
become more daring and more fashionable in her Paris years, but she's still
adorable, still an ingenue, and still highly dangerous. (By Momus)

Kumi plays the trumpet on Tatamusic and we made Vodkademo together.

Kyoka
Sensibility plays a central role in the work of Kyoka who likens the process of producing musical compositions to the creation of crystals out of finely ground sound powder. A magazine once described her as a freestyle broken pop beat artist, her style has seen her labelled as anything from a pop idol to a noise artist. Her fans range from the Japanese experimental king Ryuichi Sakamoto to Stooges/Minutemen bassist Mike Watt, who played her music almost every time of his recent podcast shows and who recorded bass for her sound.
Kyoka is also half of the Groopies duet with Nobuko Hori.

Kyoka sings on Yo Kalabi !

Nikolu
Nikolu is p laying in many bands, such as La Chatte, ii, Lustrine, Genau, Louisville or That Summer. At present, he is involved in the creation of the performance THINGS MOVING, by Emmanuel Lagarrigue, théâtre de l’Onde, France. Pirandelo
Pirandelo was born from the meeting between of Andrea Gabriele, Marita Cosma and Claudio Sinatti, respectively involved into the the music, the images and the videos of this collaboration.
Pirandèlo is folder of music, photography, videos and writing; the medium of a journey that start from an organic and tangible astraction to a cinematic and synaesthetic narration.

Andrea provided all the samples i used on Hiti Mumu

Sawako
Sawako is a Tokyo/NYC-based sound sculptor who understands the value of dynamics and the power of silence. After beginning in video art, Sawako shifted her focus from the video camera to sound. Once through the processor named Sawako, sounds in everyday life - field recordings, instruments, voice and electronic sounds - float in space vividly with a digital yet organic texture.
Her unique sonic world has been called "post romantic sound" by Boston's Weekly Dig.
Sawako has collaborated with a wide range of musicians such as Andrew Deutsch, Asuna, Yuichiro Fujimoto, Jacob Kirkegaard, Taku Sugimoto, Toshimaru Nakamura, Daisuke Miyatani, Nobuko Hori, Kenneth Kirschner and Taylor Deupree.

Carl Stone
Carl Stone is one of the pioneers of live computer music, and has been hailed by the Village Voice as "the king of sampling." and "one of the best composers living in (the USA) today." He has used computers in live performance since 1986. Stone was born in Los Angeles and now divides his time between San Francisco and Japan. He studied composition at the California Institute of the Arts with Morton Subotnick and James Tenney and has composed electro-acoustic music almost exclusively since 1972. Julian Tardo (Insides)
Originally known as Earwig, ambient pop duo Insides comprised singer/bassist Kirsty Yates and guitarist/programmer Julian Tardo. Released by 4AD imprint Guernica, their 1993 debut Euphoria was a glacial soundworld of eerie electronics and dispassionate vocals, cradling brutally candid lyrics. The following year's Clear Skin was their 4AD swansong: a limited edition, one-track CD featuring a 38-minute instrumental. The pair later re-emerged on the Third Stone label releasing Sweet Tip. Tardo now records produces and remixes other artists.Yates is an international businesswoman.

Julian played his unique guitar style on End What End and If July !

Yama Boy
Yama Boy AKA Simon Barry has been making soulful electronica out of his bedroom in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia for about two years.  Performing live with a selection of electronic hardware (synths, samplers, loops) he creates layered sound with a heavy focus on rhythm and beat. Last year saw his first release in the form of "Moon Cycles" a collection of home recordings from 2007-2009. Yama means mountain in Japanese.

Simon did End What End with me and sings on Go Faya ! And we (Hypo & EDH) just remixed him for his forthcoming single !
